happy birthday, zossima!

november 4th was a special day for two reasons: the US elected its first african-american president and jesse and kaedra had a baby girl! both will change the world.

zossima walsh (no middle name yet) was born at home in boise at 11:44am on tuesday, november 4. she weighed 9 pounds and was 21 3/4 inches long. she has thick, jet-black hair and looks nothing like jasper! she came about a week early and she came fast--after just about 5 hours of hard labor and only a few pushes. kaedra and jesse loved their midwives and had a wonderful experience birthing at home. jasper was playing with a friend while his little sister was born and was happy to meet her when he came home. he gives her lots of kisses (and is enjoying big-boy treats like muffins and a new train set). and the whole family made the trek to the voting booths later in the day!

zossima is named for father zossima, the lovely priest in dostoyevsky's the brothers karamazov. he is very wise with a heart full of love. let's pray little zossima will be the same!
